For several years I was commissioned to design and build props to coincide with specific themes for high school dances. Working with students to create scenery very different than the usual cookie-cutter pieces available through catalogues was a rewarding experience. Sadly I did not think to take photos of some of my early work, which included components with Egyptian motifs, as well as sets for "Shanghai Nights" and - the most intricate and environmental/3-dimensional (my favorite) - "Mardi Gras."
In 2012 I was given the opportunity to work with director Gregory Stavrou and fellow visual artist Sara Hobbs Kohrt to design the set for Shadowlands at the Rochester (MN) Civic Theatre. From the sharing of ideas to creating a model, design concept and palette - to the reality of helping build major components of the set - it was an awesome experience!
The images for Lessons - a musical production by the New Hampshire-based Alchemists' Workshop that toured in 2015-2016 - were projected onto a screen to create a changing backdrop to follow the story and act as an integral part of the simple but effective set.
